Blacksmith Bellow AAA1536 Sculpt
This Blacksmith Bellow Fang is a utility object and an artistic masterpiece from Gabon. It is made of metal, wood and leather, and measures 74x36x22 cm deep. The bellows is composed of two solid chambers covered by a diaphragm of loose skin. The blacksmith's assistant pumped the bellows by pulling on the strings attached to the two chambers. The bellows is sculpted in the shape of a woman. The woman has an elongated head, almond-shaped eyes and a thin mouth. This bellows is a precious object that is both beautiful and functional. This mid-20th century piece is a testimony to the art and culture of the Fang and Punu peoples.
