Bulu Gorilla fetish sculpture
This Ngil fetish is a ritual object used by the Fang people of Central Africa. It is made of wood and measures 19x19x59 cm. The fetish represents a being that is half monkey and half human. The body is that of a man, but the head is that of a gorilla. The eyes are big and prominent, and the mouth is open. The Ngil fetish is a highly valuable piece of art and religion. It is the result of meticulous work and Cameroonian craftsmanship from the middle of the 20th century. It is also a symbolic object, representing the power and protection of the spirit of the Ngi gorilla.
