This Dyonyeni figurine, originally from the Bambara tribe in Mali, is a fine example of African art and culture. It dates from the middle of the 20th century and measures 19x18x68.5 cm. Dyonyeni figures are associated with the Southern Dyo Society and the Kwore Society. For the Bambara, the maternal figure is the embodiment of Faro, goddess of water and mother of all mankind. This unique sculpture shows itself in rain and rainbow or thunder and lightning.
