This Baoulé figure embodies a symbolic sanctuary, representing a “mother” and serving as a spiritual residence for the spirit of the bush, invoked by the diviner. The careful carving reflects the aesthetics of the Baoulé, highlighting the beauty of women and children. The flawless details, such as combed hair and scarifications, portray a prominent mature woman. Measuring 22x26.5x103 cm and carved in wood, it dates from the middle of the 20th century, it comes from Côte d'Ivoire in the Baoulé tribe.
