Chihongo AAA714 mask

This Chihongo mask, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a fine example of African art and culture. It dates from the 20th century and measures 26x29.5x40 cm. This unique mask is carved from wood and represents a male spirit. The face is rounded. The eyes are half-closed and the “tear” marks are visible under the eyes. The nose is wide and the mouth is open, with pointed teeth. The mask is topped with a fan-shaped headpiece decorated with feathers. The dancer wore rattles to rhythm his dance.
